Greeting Card - 5" x 7"
Created in 2012
In October of 2012 I had baseball fever with the Oakland A's and San Francisco Giants making the playoffs! I honestly thought we were going to have another "Battle of the Bay". With all this excitement going on I became inspired and created "America's Pastime" to pay tribute to all of the baseball enthusiasts.
Baseball became extremely popular during and just after the American Civil War (1861-1865). It was called "America's Pastime" because it was the most widely played sport in our country. Before television, the internet, technology, American football and other sports, baseball was one of the few things that almost every American could relate to. In 1869, the first professional baseball team, the Cincinnati Red Stockings, was created. This was the beginning of professional baseball as we know it today, Major League Baseball (MLB).
There are 23 baseball bats creating this image with the American Flag waving proudly through them. This piece is dedicated to everyone who has played or just loves this game.
